Comments: At the time, there were just two high schools in Pocatello: Highland High School and Pocatello High School. I began attending Highland in the fall of 1975. In January 1976, auditions were announced for the annual two-school musical; the show was West Side Story. I nervously attended the auditions at Highland, but when it was time for the tenors to get up on stage, I chickened out. Then, when the show was produced in either February or March of that year, I ushered for two or three performances of the show. I couldn't believe how wonderful a show it was, and that I was not a part of it. I made a vow then and there to audition for the two-school musical the following year; I did, and I was cast as Older Patrick in Mame. The one show I truly wish I had been in.
